KHRUSHCHEV
[Joseph Stalin was supreme leader of the Soviet Union from 1929 until 1953]
Khrushchev, an ex Military commander was in the middle of a fiery political speech, denouncing Stalins crimes.A fat man from the crowd shouted-" If he was so evil, why didn't you stop him?" Enraged, Khrushchev yelled back-" Who said that?" No hands went up.All held their breaths as a terrifying silence fell upon the crowd. After a few seconds of the deathly silence Khrushchev finally said in a quiet voice-"Now you know why I didnt stop him.
Instead of explaining why he did not speak up,he made them feel what it was to be like in Stalins presence. The slightest sign of rebellion would mean certain death. He made them feel the fear- the fear of speaking up.The demonstration had its effect and there was no necessity for any more arguments.
