THE REQUEST

Mucianus,A RomanConsul,wanting to lay siege to a city, needed a huge battering ram.So he sent his soldiers to the engineer in Athens.But the engineer argued that a smaller ram would be better.The soldiers warned that Mancianus was not a man to argue with.Still he drew up diagram after diagram to prove his point.Nevertherless he agreed to send the big ram. But after the soldiers left,he sent the small ram thinking that they would see his logic in battle.When the small ram arrived Mucianus went into a rage and called in the soldiers for an explanation.His soldiers explained their encounter with the engineeer.Mucianus went into a fury.Now,he could not concentrate on the impending battle-but only on the engineer.He ordered his soldiers to bring in the smart engineer.

Facing Mucianus with an air of expertise,the engineer drew the same diagrams,gave the same old arguments.Mucianus let him finish,then ordered the soldiers to strip the engineer naked,and personally whipped him to death- to a bloody mess.

Moral:Face the reality-your arguments may be right,but at times it may not be in your best interests to convince others with your logic,reason and facts.The reason?He is superior in rank and status.So give in. Vijay- The Midnight Owl
