LIFE'S BOTTLES

THIS IS LIFE SUMMARIZED BY 5 BOTTLES

ADAT NANING

" KE LAUT  PECAH PERAHU,KEDARAT PECAH PERIUK!!:

At sea he wrecks the ship, at home he wrecks the cooking pot!!"

A person who is trouble and clumsy wherever he goes. Never mind if he is at the workplace or simply at home- his presence only brings or causes trouble by whichever means- conversation, conduct, work or worse- in social circles. If you run into such a person, definitely you are under some kind of curse.Ask God  to give you wisdom how to escape from this monkey.  May you live well.

NOT DESIRED

"Kalau Tuan hendaklah saya, Bakarlah air, ambil  abunya."

I think the meaning to be  inferred here is this- since we all know that water cannot be reduced to ashes ( I hope I am right)'If you desire to have me, then burn the water and bring the ashes .

This is probably a subtle rejection, though not said outrightly. Another probablity is that the person is so undesirable, probabaly less than handsome or beautiful, the usual  defects- a blank look, maybe skin like sandpaper, one eye big, the other small, or a  nose which faintly reminds one of a vultures beak. The list is indeed endless. One thing's for sure though, this desire is not going to get fulfilled. The Midnight Owl

KAPAK!!

" Bagai kapak memasuk minang"

Like sending an axe to negotiate marriage arrangements, who ruins everything even before the  discussion has hardly begun.[usually by suggesting that the dowry is a bit too low] Similar to sending a  clumsy idiot with a capital "I" to handle a delicate matter. This can also be extended to mean ill- prepared new lawyers who fumble their way through cases, totally ruining any possible out of Court settlements.     The Midnight Owl

BULAN TURUN KERIBAAN

"The moon descending?"

This is another classic Malay proverb which means-"It is as  though the moon  has fallen into ones lap" This is a figurative language describing the great fourtune which was totally unexpected  descending on oneself. An unimaginable stroke of good luck.

That may be so, but the reality is what often comes our way is some useless cosmic dust, which is usually explained away as misfortune, fate or simply a bad day.  Vijay- The Silent Observer

P.S. If  indeed, the "bulan" falls into your lap, please let me know.I want  be happy for you. So far I have only heard people  explain to me how some crap unexpectedly fell onto them.

A MALAY PROVERB

"KARAM DILAUT BOLEH DITIMBA,
 KARAM DIHATI SUDAH SEKALI"

The first line is talking about a boat which is shipwrecked. Though it is a grave misfortune, the situation can still be remedied. But the shipwreck of the human heart is final and not possible to be remedied."

Life is full of uncertainties. There are inumerable situations where the "karam dihati" can take place.Well. having spent a reasonable time here on planet earth,in quite a number of social circles, and a  silent observer of the monkey behaviour of  both the male and the female species, there is some truth in the observations of prominent psychologists- most notable Dr. Maxtwell Maltz & Sigmond Freud- "NO EXPECTATION-NO DISAPPOINTMENT!!"   It is better and indeed to think with one's head than with ones heart.Do no play the "intense feeling" guy.Be detached - and you can laugh when anybody plays hard to get. Lets others be entangled- you head the other way.Sail well, my  friend, life is short- no time to brood because "karam dihati atau pun dilaut!!!".   Vijay- The Midnight Owl
