NEW LIGHTS

This is El-Rakh-Rimau's room.He complained that the room light was too bright so I had to change it.His room is a very quiet and dark place and there is also a fan to keep him cool.He sleeps most of the day and is active only at 2.a.m.This morning at 2.10 am he asked me "Tuan boleh keluar sebentar? Saya nak pergi jalan-jalan." I gave him until 5am to return.He said- Terima Kasih Tuan-Sayaaaaaang awak Vijay!!!" Oh My God- the trouble is starting again!! Vijay- The Midnight Owl.

CALL OF THE DESERT

I have trekked in many places and in 2 deserts of the world.One is the desert in Arabia and the other is the Mojave desert in California.The first was terrifying- the feeling of being all alone in a foreign country- in the middle of nowhere.I told my driver and guide to drop me in a desolate part of the desert and to pick me up in the evening before sunset.He was very suspicious as to what I wanted to do all alone in the desert as there was nothing there but sand,stone and dust-and also some strange empty caves by the mountainside.. When he left,I trekked 2 hours to walk to the distant mountain and its many caves.When I arrived at the dark brown mountainside,the place was so deathly silent-so eerie...rocks everywhere...but there is a huge dark cave there...I walked to wards it very slowly.. whether I come out alive or not...I know this.. something is urging me to go in...although I am fearful,I know I have to go in and find out for myself..my heart stops breathing now as I leave the sunlight and enter the darkness of the eerie,silent cave..... P.S.When my bearded Arabian Guide came to pick me up at 7 pm,he kept staring into my face silently.

ILR 2008

P.S.I hope the publishers will release the Reports for the first half of this year 2009.I have already read the whole Reports for 2008 and am into my second reading now.Law students take note-

1st Reading you must grasp the general principle and its "ratio decidendi"
2nd Reading- readers must take note of the exceptions and its "obiter dicta"-if any.
3rd Reading- here readers must go into meticulous detail and read the Judgment CAREFULLY as to why the Presiding Judge came to this decision. In Law Reports,it is reported under the title GROUNDS FOR JUDGMENT.

This is my new set of Dictionary books-Webster,Oxford,New World and American Heritage.Unlike other languages and dialects,the English language has never been static.Instead it has ever been expanding with a new volley of every chameleon type of words and phrases.One such word is "irritainment". It's meaning is this-Viewers see an entertainment programme which is supposed to entertain but in fact is irritating!! The Midnight Owl- Vijay

WHY STUDY?

This is my private home library.I have more books in my study room and evenmore in the bedroom.In my storeroom I have confidential books which are not available in the open market.An old lady who visited me and saw my books asked "Why this madness?" One book was so heavy she could not carry it.

My profession as a lawyer and law lecturer demands many things,but can be narrowed down to three- "Substance-Clarity & Eloquence". To all my students and young lawyers who are reading this,remember- If you are not born rich- then your options are limited.You must study your books and be knowledgeable. The other option is to learn how to rob a bank.For the lower intelligence sort,then the available alternative is to learn how snatch purses from some miserable lady.- Study and EARN YOUR $$$
