Pulau Ubin

Location: South China Sea, off Singapore

Size: Four square miles
Population: 100
One of the last rural holdouts in Singapore, Pulau Ubin ("Granite Island") near Changi Point is a freeze-frame of Malay kampong village life in the 1960s. Thatched-roof homes sit among forested rolling hills and abandoned granite quarries. Fishermen live on kelongs, old wooden fishing houses built on stilts over the water. It's a soul-soothing escape from the highly urbanized buzz on the nearby mainland.

Legatum Prosperity Index

After studying 40 years of data and outcomes, they settled on eight areas – the ingredients of prosperity: economy, entrepreneurship, governance, education, health, safety, personal freedom and social capital. Then they looked for reliable data from the likes of the Gallup polling organization that would let them rank countries on their performance in these areas. Add up the scores and you get the Legatum Prosperity Index.

ONE OF MY FIRST PASTORS

THIS was one of my first Pastors. This week I was in Penang and decided to vist her place  of  burial. She died 10 years ago at 46 years of age. She taught me to the Injil Al- Masih. The graveyard was so silent, secluded and peaceful... and I was the only being there who is not yet a corpse. But deep down I know we all have to be carried to the  "liang kubur" someday......and there are no exceptions to this fate which awaits all of us.There is only one option for all of us- and that is-to  face life as it is - one day at a time. Here today- gone tomorrow.

TOPSY TURVY

Today I  was at the Industrial Court 13- for continued Cross Examination. Just when I thought the case was over- the Company(defendants) applied for leave to file in additional documents. The Industrial Court being a court of equity granted it. So what was supposed to be the end of the case  continued. And the man in the dock was as slippery as an eel- A Datuk with a legal background.( Not to be rude- there is a saying among lawyers that some witnesses can grab the lawyers by their balls- I suppose this is one of  them). He was prepared with well thought out answers- so I cut the CE short in 1/2 an hour. Next came the Tan Sri-the CEO of the Company. A soft spoken man- but even more slippery. He had only tendered 19 questions through his lawyers. And there was the frequent " bantahan" from the other lawyer.

Although the judge has said ' Objection Overuled" still she objected to this and that. By the time I said ' No Further Question" my mind was topsy turvy. Courts instructions were Companys submission by the 24th Jun 2011- My submission  1 months time after their and a reply to my submission if there is any. Well, I am exhausted for the day- there is still one more client I need to call before I call it a day-  I said a short prayer just now before I call him- because he is a real snake in the green green grass.

MANS AVERAGE LIFE

The average man's life consists of:
Twenty years of having his mother ask him where he is going,
Forty years of having his wife ask the same question;
and at the end, the mourners wondering too where he gone.

NEXT DESTINATION

ASWAN, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- "Aswan is 1,000 kilometres from Cairo. You can take a train or plane to Luxor and then take the 4 nights/5 days River Nile cruise to Aswan and then back to Cairo by air or land", a staff at a tour agency in Cairo told potential visitors to Aswan and Luxor, two other famous cities for tourism in Egypt.
Dalia Khayrat has been working in the tourism industry for more than four years and does her best for her clients.

One Again

I am with me again.....
I turn my back on everything again...and am walking nowhere
No destination.. and yet I am waking into something
I am walking into the arena of mysteries.....I feel my heart has slowed down its beating..
And slowly receding into  a rhythm.......
Very gently I  hear the wind rustling in the trees...it is whistling...and something within me is coming alive again..

I am one with the universe... I  have returned to the great silent wind...I have returned to my friend again....
One day........ this mysterious friend will usher me away... and I will not return this way again..
